Saving on Home Energy CostsOne of the toughest parts of getting ready for colder weather is figuring out how to save when energy bills start to rise. Fortunately, there are some simple solutions that are easy to implement and keep more of your money in your pocket. Here are just a few simple tips to save on home energy costs. And they don’t involve having to understand a lick about home heating repair!

1. Avoid Turning Heat On And Off

One of the things that really makes energy bills spike is turning on the heat in a home or apartment. That’s because turning on heat takes a lot of power, which means a lot of money every time you turn it off and then on again. Try keeping your heat at a stable level long-term, and you’ll get more value for your money.

2. Old-Fashioned Clothing Lasts for a Reason

In the “old days,” people used to buy fewer sets of clothes. The benefit was that these clothes were often made well and to be durable. In the winter, they were meant to be very warm. Investing in a Shetland wool sweater, for example, is a great way to keep toasty when the temperature drops — without turning up the heat. A good heavy sweater can last a very long time and allow you to set your thermostat a few degrees lower this winter.

3. Chicken Soup For The Soul (And The Warmth)

One of the best parts of autumn and winter is the range of meals that are traditionally made during these seasons. Learning how to make a few simple stews, soups and meals that will warm you up — and keep you warm — is a great way to feel great and stay comfy.

Foods from Northern climes like Scotland and Ireland can be filling, delicious and specially made for damp and drizzly weather: perfect for tucking into a good meal. And it’s not for nothing that world-class cities like Vienna are famous for their deserts and heavy dinners — since Vienna’s temperatures drop precipitously during the winter, these foods are meant to keep people warm and provide their body with energy to burn.

So as you’re preparing for a shift in seasons, know that you’re not alone in wanting to save on energy costs! The good news is that there are many ways to do so — and they can even make life feel a bit more special. After all, who doesn’t like a good stew and a cup of tea in front of a fire in their most comfy sweater? So don’t fret about dropping temperatures — look forward to them!

-Charles E.

The Sunset team who sold and installed a new furnace and AC unit in my condominium were wonderful. They were knowledgeable, professional, thorough, respectful and friendly. They went the extra mile to be sure other residents were not impacted and I was happy. They took special care to leave no trace of their being here, except for new and vastly improved heating and cooling system.
